Big Infrastructure Coming to the Upper Cumberland!
Big changes are coming to the Upper Cumberland this fall. Construction is officially set to begin on a 122-mile natural gas pipeline that will run through several Tennessee counties—including Putnam, Overton, Fentress, Smith, and Jackson—bringing both opportunity and curiosity to local communities.
The project, called the Ridgeline Expansion Project, is being led by East Tennessee Natural Gas, a subsidiary of Enbridge, and will supply natural gas to the Tennessee Valley Authority’s new Kingston Energy Complex. After gaining final approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on October 7, 2025, pre-construction work has already started, with full construction beginning November 1, 2025.
The Route and Timeline
The pipeline will be built in two main phases:
Phase One: Roane County to Putnam County (starting November 1, 2025)
Phase Two: Putnam County to Trousdale County (starting December 1, 2025)
In total, the 122-mile line will stretch through Roane, Morgan, Fentress, Overton, Putnam, Jackson, Smith, and Trousdale Counties, connecting parts of East and Middle Tennessee. The entire project is projected to. . .
