Have you heard about the new bill proposed by United States Representative Jeff Jackson in North Carolina?

@jeffjacksonnc

Rep. Jeff Jackson (NC): Corporate home-buying is out of control. #fyp #nc #charlotte #raleigh #asheville #politics

According to Jackson, the housing shortage we are seeing exists because many cities have made it illegal to build duplexes, triplexes, and townhomes. Although some cities are working to legalize these multi-living homes, it could take years, and he goes on to say that the problem is becoming more urgent as companies are buying up houses and renting them out, worsening the scarcity.

To tackle this problem, Jackson has introduced a bill that requires large corporations buying multiple homes to contribute $10,000 to a fund. This fund would assist low-income families in making downpayments on their homes. The aim is to create a disincentive for companies to keep purchasing properties, while using the generated funds to support those who are most affected by the housing shortage.

Jackson acknowledges that this solution won't solve the issue overnight, but he claims that it will shift the balance in favor of families looking to purchase their first homes.

We'd love to hear your thoughts on this bill. What do you think about it?
